01 · Challenge

Challenge

In the ports of Harlingen and Terschelling, gangways must operate safely and smoothly in all weather conditions. SPIE was looking for a cable guidance solution for these movable structures. The challenge is twofold: the installations move constantly and are continuously exposed to an aggressive, salty maritime climate. Without the right protection, cables quickly kink or wear due to friction and the weather, which can lead to failures in the vital port infrastructure. For a project like this, standard cable management is not enough; it requires material that can withstand corrosion and heavy mechanical stress.

02 · Solution

Solution

As exclusive partner of Tsubaki Kabelschlepp since 1975, we at Wisman know exactly which cable carrier is suitable for this specific environment. We started with some engineering to map the exact stroke and bending radius of the gangways. Given the location right by the sea, we chose cable carriers specifically designed for outdoor applications and high loads. Throughout the process, we worked closely with SPIE's fitters to ensure the installation fitted seamlessly onto the existing structure of the gangways. Thanks to our many years of experience in cranes and ports, we were able to act quickly and offer a solution that significantly extends the service life of the cables.

03 · Result

Result

The result is a reliable system in which the cables move safely and in a controlled way with the gangways. The risk of cable breakage or failures due to external factors is kept to a minimum. The robust cable carriers absorb the forces of the movement, so the internal cabling is not put under tensile stress. Thanks to the durable materials from Tsubaki Kabelschlepp, the installations in Harlingen and Terschelling can run for years without intensive maintenance. It is a fine example of how the right motion technology ensures continuity in the logistics chain.
