Cable management for the swing bridges at Sas van Gent and Sluiskil with Kabelschlepp rotary carriers

For the swing bridges at Sas van Gent and Sluiskil, we used Kabelschlepp S1250 rotary carriers in a housing of our own design with running and guide wheels, and took care of assembly and installation on site.

01 · Challenge

Challenge

At the swing bridges of Sas van Gent and Sluiskil, we faced a considerable technical puzzle. A swing bridge is a dynamic structure in which the cables for power and signalling are constantly moving. The challenge here was the rotating movement combined with very limited installation space in the central pivot shaft. Because the bridges are essential to the region's infrastructure, their freedom of movement could not be restricted in any way. In addition, the cables had to be protected against the elements and mechanical stress, while access for maintenance in the narrow housing was minimal.

02 · Solution

Solution

As exclusive partner of Tsubaki Kabelschlepp, we opted for a solution with so-called 'rotary carriers'. For this, we used the Kabelschlepp S1250 series. These are robust cable carriers specifically designed for rotating applications where a rotation of more than 360 degrees is often required.

Our engineering department designed a special housing in which the cable carrier is precisely positioned. To minimise resistance and maximise service life, the carriers are fitted with special running and guide wheels. This ensures the chain runs smoothly through the bend without touching the walls of the tight housing. Our services also include complete assembly and installation on site, taking into account the difficult access to the pivot shaft.

03 · Result

Result

The result is an extremely reliable system that ensures safe and continuous operation of the bridges. The cables are now optimally guided and fully protected against wear, keeping the risk of breakdowns to a minimum. The use of the S1250 rotary carriers has considerably improved the durability of the installation, even under the harsh conditions the Dutch government faces in civil engineering.
