At Chemelot, SABIC and ProfCore are going to robotise the compounding and filling of additives. This fits a broader trend: in the process industry, too, robots are increasingly taking over repetitive and physically demanding work.
Different requirements than an assembly line
Such an environment places different demands than an average assembly line. Think of dust, chemicals, cleaning cycles and continuous operation. The cabling and hoses along the robot must be able to withstand this and be easily accessible for inspection.
Designing for maintenance
- Accessibility: holders and hoses that can be opened, so a cable can be inspected or replaced without dismantling the entire package.
- Material selection: hoses and holders resistant to the substances and cleaning agents on site.
- Fixed inspection points: determine in advance where wear is to be expected, so an inspection is quick and comparable.
- Parts in stock: the wear parts are defined, so replacement fits within a short maintenance window.
Robotics and process maintenance combined
Wisman Techniek combines robot dress packs with years of experience in maintenance in the process industry. That means we already consider during the design how the system will be maintained later.
